This Church pertains to the CSI and is built of a Gothic structure on the State Highway Road in Idaiyangudi. It was built by Bishop Robert Caldwell in 1871. Idiyankudi is very close to the Bay of Bengal and the Church lies between Uvari and Thisaiyinvilai. and is more than 150 years old. To start with there were just 7 Christian families but now due to the presence of this Church and its influence Idaiyangudi has a majority of Christian families. Bishop Robert Caldwell knew the importance of Tamil and hence propagated Christianity through the vernacular Tamil. The Church has become an important landmark of this town now. The Church has 4 Brass Bells and its sound could be heard upto a distance of 5 Kms and these were got from London when the Church was built. The Church runs a few Schools including a Tailoring School to benefit the poor. Robert Caldwell has been honoured with a Statue of his in Marina beach in Chennai.
