The St.Thomas Syro Malabar Catholic International Shrine of Malayattoor is located in Malayattoor of Ernakulam District in Kerala State.  This St. Thomas Syro Malabar Catholic International Shrine of Malayattoor is one of the eight International Catholic Shrines in the world which is recognized by the Vatican. It is believed that St.Thomas, one of the Apostle of Jesus Christ held Prayers at this place where the Church is situated when he landed in Kerala. It is said that Kurishumudi is the place where one can find the Golden Cross and is believed  to have formed when St.Thomas knelt on a rock and signed a Cross with his finger. He remained there praying for a long time because of which a Golden Cross appeared on the spot. The Church was later built on that Cross, and another Golden Cross was erected right on top of that stone which remains in the center of the Church. This Church is built on a small Hillock on the banks of River Periyar. There is a Sacred well situated near the ancient Chapel atop the Hill and it is believed that the well was created by St.Thomas by striking the rock. Devotees visiting this Church believe that the Holy Water of the well has healing effects.  One of the eye catching aspect of this Church is that there is a permanent mark of the footprints of St.Thomas imprinted on the rock. Currently the natural footprint cannot be seen but instead there is a replica made by the Church. The old Church complex which was inside a dense forest was attacked by the  elephants. Even today deep tusk marks of the elephants can be found on the back wall of the Church Complex. Every year thousands of Devotees visit this Church on the first Sunday after Easter to seek the Holy Blessings. The walls of this Church is decorated with beautiful carvings and paintings that depict the life History of Lord Jesus Christ. This Church also has a colourfully stained glass windows. This Church also has an ancient pond that was used for baptism purposes and a traditional pulpit which showcase the Historical significance of this Church. Since this Church is recognized by Vatican many devotees from Abroad visit this Church every year.
