Arangetra Ayyanar or Sastha Temple, Thirupattur, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu

  • Arangetra Ayyanar or Sastha Temple, Thirupattur, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu

This Temple is supposed to be more than 1200 years old. In earlier days Thirupattur was also called as Thiruppidavur.  It is  believed that this Temple was  hidden beneath the sand dunes for so many years before a big team of well wishers dug it out and restored this. It is located on the way to Brahmapureeswarar Temple. In the olden days it was built of just mud but later on King Raja Raja Chola took keen interest and built it in a much bigger way with stones. Ayyanar / Sastha is the Presiding Deity here with Poorna and Pushkala as his two Consorts. Generally the Ayyanar is seen holding weapons of destruction like Sickle, Sword Spears etc in his hand. But in this Temple instead of holding all these weapons he has Palm Leaves in his hands. It is hence believed that anyone coming here and praying to Him will be Blessed with  very good education. Students throng this Temple during the time of examinations to seek the Blessings of the Presiding Deity.
