  • Arulmigu Chitragupta Swamy Temple, Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu

The Presiding Deity is Lord Chitragupta Swamy.  The Temple is located in Nellukara Street in Big Kancheepuram.  The Temple gains prominence since it is the only Temple for Lord Chitaragupta Swamy. The Presiding Deity of Chithraguptha Swami is found in a seated posture along with Karnigambal in the Sanctorum.  Some say that Chitragupta is Lord Yama's Minister while some others say that He is the younger brother of Lord Yama.  This Temple was constructed during the Chola dynasty in the 9th century.  The Temple has a three tiered Rajagopuram and is built in typical Dravidian style of Architecture.  Chitragupta is considered to be the Athipathi for Kethu, hence Rahu Parihaaram done along with Kethu is very famous here.  He is considered to keep a check of all our Sins during our lifetime and  hence the God is found with a Ezhuthani and Scripts in His Hands.  There are Shrines for Ayyappan, Vishnu Durgai and Ramalingar apart from a Navagraha Sannidhi.  The Temple attracts lots of Devotees on Chithra Pournami days and other Full Moon days.
