This Temple which is supposed to be 825 years old is situated in a serene ambience amidst the Anjaneya Hills and Bhairava Hills on the banks of Lake Patethalavu. The area where the Temple is located in Kallukurukki is known as Periya Erikkarai. The Presiding Deity here is Lord Kaala Bhairava and Trident is His Weapon. It is said that Lord Kala Bhairava showed His might by simply nibbing the head of Lord Brahmma with His nail. There are 2 Kaala Bhairava Idols in the Sanctum Sanctorum and Shiva's Vahanam Nandhi is kept opposite to the Main Deity. From an adjoining gaping hole the Shiva Lingam kept inside the Sanctum Sanctorum is seen clearly. This Temple is the Kula Deivam of people of nearly 160 villages around this area. It is simply flooded with Devotees during Rahu Kaalam time and on Thei Pirai Ashtami days. People throng here to get rid from diseases from poverty and their enemies. Childless couple too come here and get Blessed. In recent days people buying new 2 wheelers and cars not only from Tamil Nadu but from even Karnataka and AP State come here to make to debut Pooja for their vehicles. The entire area around the Temple is cemented and vehicles could be parked in any place without any hindrance. There is a Sub Shrine in which a Lingam and a Nandhi is kept and Prayed. At the rear of the Temple there is an enclosure where a Shiva Lingam is placed with Dogs statue (Bhairavar Vigraham). There is an enclosure for Navagraham close to the lake bund. There is a Dwajasthambam in the front and they have erected tinned roofing for the comfort of the Devotees. This is a typical village Temple and Villagers and Devotees keep coming here tirelessly to seek the Blessings of Lord Kaala Bhairava.
