The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Lord Kandaswamy who is an incarnation of Lord Murugan. This place is known as Thiruporur since it is believed that Lord Muruga won a battle agains Demon King Tharuka Asuran. The initial Temple complex was built by Pallava Kings in the Tenth Century and was later rebuilt by Chidambara Adigal in the 17th Century. This Temple is built by following the Dravidian Style of Architecture There is a five tiered Rajagopuram and a 24 pillared Mandapam at the entrance of the Temple. The Sanctum Sanctorum of this Temple is made out of Granite and the Presiding Deity is seven feet tall. Devotees pay their respect to Lord Murugan by Tonsuring their Head and by Ear Boring. Vaikasi Visakam is celebrated in a grand manner and during this time lots of Devotees visit here. There is a huge Sacred Tank opposite to the Temple around which several shops selling Divine products are found.
