This Temple is also known as Sri Makaliamman Temple and it is located in Subbarayan Street, Aminjikkarai, Chennai. The Temple is East facing and is considered to be one of the most powerful Amman Temples of Chennai. The extact origin of this Temple is not known but the authorities say that the Temple is around 500 years old. Decades ago the entrance to this Temple was North facing and on Poonamallee High Road but now this entrance has been closed. On entering the Temple there is a flower shop and close to it is a place earmarked for cooking Pongal by the Devotees. Beyond it is a Peepal Tree and Neem Tree around which an elevated cement podium. On this podium several Naga Devathas Idols, Aman Idol and a Vinayagar Idol are seen. On the left side there is a Sub Shrine for Sarva Siddhi Vinayagar whose Shrine faces North. The Main Shrine consists of several pillars which are beautifully decorated and the entiring flooring is made out of beautiful black tiles. On top of the Maha Mandapam several Idols of various Gods are seen. The ceiling too is painted with multiple colours making it look gorgeous. On either side of the Moolasthanam there are Dwara Baalakis who stand as Guards. Above this threshold are the Idols of Goddess Sakthi with Ganapathy and Murugan. Just above the threshold to the Sanctum Sanctorum is a beautifully painted Sri Mangaliamman who is seen here as Sapthamathas. Within the Sanctum Sanctorum Goddess Mangaliamman is majestically seated East facing along with the other Goddesses. The Urchavamoorthy Vigraham or Idol too is kept close to the Presiding Deity. The Idol of Goddess Mangaliamman which is made of a black Vigraham is so Majestic and Divine. Facing the Sanctum Sanctorum is a Bali Peedam, a Trident and an Anaiya Vilakku. Around the Koshtam there aree Idols for Goumari, Jagadeeswari, Vaishnavee, Brahmmi and Sri Durgai Amman. The Temple has an exclusive Navagraha Sannadhi built on its outer peripheral. This Temple is under the care of Tamil Nadu State Government. Though small the powers of this Mangali Amman knows no bounds. Devotees whose family sufer in Summer months due to various kinds of Chicken Pox come here and offer coconuts and other offerings and it is believed that such diseases gets cured within a short span thereafter. Hence there is a steady flow of Devotees on al days. Tamil Aadi Month attracts an overwhelming number of Devotees from nearby places to this Temple.
