Anamalai is also known as Anaimalai. The Presiding Deity of this Maasaniamman Temple is a huge and gorgeously painted idol found in a reclined posture with Her head skywards and armed with a Skull, Serpent, a Dagger in the form of a Trident and a Udukkai. This Goddess is also known as Needhikkal Maasani Amman. It is a unique Temple since no other Temples have their Deities in a sleeping or a reclined posture. Devotees coming by two wheelers, car and bus could park them with effortless ease since the paid car parking could hold any number of vehicles. There is a Police outpost of Aanaimalai Police Station for crowd control during festive occasions. This Temple gains prominence since many deprived Devotees who had lost their wealth, money etc and who had been betrayed by known or unknown people come here with a fond hope to make up for their losses. Such Devotees are asked to grind Red Chillies in an exclusive Pestle and Mortar made available to them by the Temple Management. On entering the Temple there is a colourful Rajagopuram next to which is found a fenced Stone Dwajasthambam. Devotees could offer flowered garlands here whereas special lemon garlands are offered to the Masani Amman in the Sanctum Sanctorum. 3 to 4 Purohiths keep offering Prayers to the Amman who has a steady stream of Devotees all the time. Special tickets are available too. Unlike other Hindu Temples the Vibuthi, Kumkum, Flowers, Lemon etc are not supposed to be taken home as Prasadams. There are Sub Shrines for Goddess like Pechiamman and Mahisasuramardhini. Photography or Videos are strictly banned inside the Temple Premises. Devotees who come here to Pray for peace and solace could buy all Devotional articles from the row of shops located opposite to the Temple.
