Giri Gujambika Samedha Naganatha Swami Temple is also called as Rahu Sthalam or Rahu Temple and is situated in Tirunageswaram  just five kilometers away from the Temple City of Kumbakonam.  This Temple is one of the 9 Navagraha Temples located near Kumbakonam.  It is one of the 127 Temples built on the Southern Bank of River Cauvery and is called as Panchakrosa Sthala or Rahu Sthalam.  The Temple is massive with 7 Rajagopurams.  The Presiding Deity is Naganatha Swamy.  He is in the form of a Shiva Lingam and facing His Sanctum Sanctorum are 3 Nandhis of varying sizes.  There are Sub Shrines for two of His Consorts.  His first Consort Piraiani Amman Blesses Her Devotees from Her Sub Shrine which is next to the Sanctum Sanctorum.  It is said that the Moon light falls at Her feet during the Tamil Karthigai month.  His second Consort Goddess Giri Gujambikai is found in another Sub Shrine away from here.  This Girigujambal is supposed to be a Swayambhu.  Along with Goddess Girigujambikai, Sri Lakshmi and Sri Saraswathi could be seen.  There is an exclusive mandapam for lighting lamps and this place is called as Kodi Deepa Mandapam.  A unique feature of this Temple is that Rahu Bhagwan is seen with a Human Face in His Kalyana Kolam whereas in other Rahu Temples He is seen with a Serpant Face.  Rahu Bhagwan has a separate Shrine and is seen here with two of His Consorts viz 1) Nagavalli and 2) Nagakanni.  It is said that the Milk when poured during the Abhishekam on the Idol turns Blue in colour and comes down the Idol and this could be visibly seen by all Devotees.  King Adithya Chola - I started the construction of the Temple during the 10th Century but later the Nayak Rulers took over the construction and brought this Temple to this level.  There are several Sub Shrines for Ganesha, Dhakshinamoorthy, Sapthamathas, Mahalakshmi,  Saraswathi, Lingathbhavar, Brahmma, Durgai Maha Vishnu, Valli Devasena Samedha Murugan, Sastha, Sivasakthi Narayanee, Maha Bhairavar, Paravai Nachiyar, Nalvar, Suryan and Chandran. The peculiarity of this Temple is that the Adhikara Nandhi is found here in a Human form. There is a Kubera Theertham which resembles a small well and is located within the Temple. The Temple is well decorated and painted gorgeously in multi colours and looks quite modern.  There is a huge Pushkarani or a Temple Tank which is called as Soorya Pushkarani and the Sthala Viruksham is Shenbaga Tree.  There is a Wish Tree which is a Vanni Maram and people Pray here and tie a knot around this Tree.  This Wish Tree has several Naga Devatha Idols beneath it. The Temple ceiling too is well decorated.  There are vast Praharams and multiple Gopurams and Mandapams.  The 100 pillared Mandapam built on a Temple Car style is a great attraction.  On selective and auspicious days this Temple attracts lots of Devotees not only from nearby areas but from other far flung places too.  The Brahmmothsavam festival celebrated here during the month of November and December gathers lots of Devotees and is of great importance.  This Temple is very famous in this region and Devotees who come and Pray drive away the ill effects of Kaala Sarpa Dhosham and Sarpa Dhosam.  Its also said that Childless Couple and Troubled Marriages get a peaceful solution here.  The Temple has a huge paid parking where even buses could be parked along with cars and bikes.
