In earlier times king Kandeergo seems to have ruled this part and hence this place was then called by the name Kandeerapuram.  Later due to the connections that he had with Vaali this place was renamed as Valikandapuram.  This Valiswarar Temple has been taken over by the Archealogical Survey of India and they have erected a green metallic fencing all around the Temple.  On the right side before the Rajagopuram is a Kuthirai Mandapam where more than 20 images of Horses are sculpted in the pillars all over the Mandapam.  This Mandapam is also known as Natarajar Mandapam since Lord Natarajar occupies this place earlier.  The Rajagopuram is East facing and has 7 tiers in it.  On entering the Temple Devotees have to go down by 4 or 5 steps and on their right a Pushkarani or a Sacred Tank could be seen.  There is a Bali Peedam and a Nandhi Vaahanam is kept facing the Moolavar Sannadhi and there is a Mandapam buit around the Nandhi Vaahanam.  On the right of the Nandhi is another Mandapam with multiple pillars.  There is a huge compound wall of more than 12 to 15 feet high which wraps the entire Temple.  On entering this point there are Sub Shrines for Pillayar,  Anjaneyar, Nachiyar, Krishnan along with Bhama and Rukmani, Vaali and facing Lord Krishna is a Garudalwar.  Jayan and Vijayan Idols too are found close to them.  Navagraha Idols are kept in a caged enclosure.  The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Lord Vaaleeswarar or Brahmapureeswarar who is none other than Lord Shiva Himself and He Blesses His Devotees in the form of a Shiva Lingam from the Sanctum Sanctorum.  He assumes several names like Thiruvaleeswarathu Mahadevar, Thiruvaleeswarathu Perumal, Thirvaleeswarathu Alwar, Thiruvaleeswarathu Parameshwarar, Thiruvaleeswara Mudaiyar, Thiruvaleenathar, Thiruvaleeswaramudaiya Thambiran, Sri Vaalinayagar and Valeeswara Swamy.  The Consort of the Presiding Deity is Valambigai or Brihannayaki and She occupies a separate Sub Shrine and She is North facing. This Temple is built on the Eastern banks of River Koneri. This Temple was constructed before Tanjore's Brihadeeswarar Temple by the Chola Kings. There are 134 inscriptions about this Temple which clearly reveals that it had been built in the year 910 AD and it shows the contributions of Aditya Chola I, Parantaka Chola, Rajaraja Chola and Krishnadevaraya. During the 18th Century, the Nawabs destructed this Temple to a large extent. There is a 9 feet tall Murugan Idol holding a Spear and He is known here by the name Bala Dhandayuthapani or Muthukumara Swamy.  He is found South facing in the outer flank of the Temple surrounding the Sanctum Sanctorum.  There are Sub Shrines for Sahasra Lingam, Vinayagar, Dhakshinamoorthy, Valli Devasena Samedha Subramaniyar, Maha Vishnu and Brahmma. Between the Vinayagar and Murugan Sub Shrines are found few Shiva Lingams of various sizes. There are three Nandhi namely Bala Nandhi, Vaaliba Nandhi and Yavana Nandhi inside this Temple Complex. Lord Bhairavar with Naagar around His waist is found in the standing posture is seen in Mahamandapam. There is a separate Shrine for Kalyana Vinayagar on the right side of Artha Mandapam.  This Temple has a huge Sacred Tank named Saravana Theertham. The River Koneri is also considered as one of the Holy Theertham of this Temple. The Sacred Tree of the Temple is Maavilangai.  Many believe that unmarried Male and Female get married and bear a kid too very soon if they come to this particular Temple and Pray before Lord Krishna and the Ambal on every Tuesday and Friday for 5 weeks.  This is one of the biggest Temples of Perambalur District located close to the Chennai Trichy National Highway.  This Temple bears a lot of Religious and Historal significance that any Devotee must not miss.  Many Wedding are performed here due to certain religious belief. Those desirous of performing their Wedding here must approach the Temple Office located at Su Aduthurai with proper records so that they are permitted to perform their Wedding here.
