The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Augarnath and He is an incarnation of Lord Shiva. THis Temple is one of the most important Temple not only a religious one but also stood as a launchpad for the first Indian Independance war. This Temple was also known as Kali Paltan Mandir. This Temple witnesses the revolt of 1857 and it is believed that Lord Shiva helped to bring the Spark to the Indian Soilders move towards indian independance. Some incriptions suggests that this TEmple was built by King Krishna Devaraya but the local priests believe that this Temple was built by Maratha Rulers. This Temple also has memoral to mommemorate the Martyers of Independence war of 1857. Recently Lord Krishna Shrine was built inside the Temple complex. The Initial Temple complex was demolished and in the year 1968 a New Temple complex was constructed by following the Mordern Architectural Style. The Kalasam of this Temple is made out of 4.5 Kg Gold which was installed in the Year 2001. Mahashivarathri is celebrated ina grand Manner.
