The Temple is called by two names Boominathaswamy or Bhoominathar Temple. The Temple is more than 1500 years old and looks majestic with its huge appearance. The Presiding Deity is Bhoominatha Swamy who is an incarnation of Lord Shiva and His Consort here is Maragathambika who is Goddess Parvathy. It is one of the oldest Temples and massive Temple to have been built in and around Veeravanallur. The Presiding Deity occupies the Main Shrine in the form of a Shiva Lingam and His Consort Goddess Marakathambigai is found in another Sub Shrine. There is a huge Dwajasthambam and a Bali Peedam with a Nandhi and 63 Nayanmaars neatly arranged and displayed. There are Sub Shrines for Saptha Mathas or Saptha Kannigaigal. Dhakshinamoorthy, Kailasanathar, Vinayagar and Subramanya Swamy along with His Consorts Valli and Deivayanai are found in separate Sub Shrines. There is an enclosure for Navagraham close to the Nandhi Mandapam. This Temple has different entrances of various sizes but the entrance on the Eastern side is still unfinished and incomplete. Two huge Chariots or Temple Cars are seen outside the Temple. The bigger Chariot is meant for Sri Bhoominatha Swamy whereas the smaller one is designed for Goddess Marakathambigai. The Sthala Viruksham or a Sacred Tree of this Temple is a Punnai Tree and the Sacred Tank or Pushkarani is called as Gnana Theertham which is located opposite to the Temple with a Manimandapam in the middle of it. This Temple gains more prominence since it is believed that Saint Agasthiyar had come here centuries before and had worshipped Lord Bhoominatha Swamy here. Vinayagar Chathurthi, Aippasi Annabishegam, Arudhra Dharisanam, Masi Magam, Pradhosham, Navarathri, Maha Shivarathiri are some of the festivals are celebrated in a grand manner.
