The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Lord Gollu or Goljyu Devta and He is an incarnation of Lord Shiva. He can be seen in the form of Gaur Bhairav. There are many Golu Devta Temple in Almora out of  these, this Chitai Golu Devta Temple is the most sacred one. Here the Presiding Deity can be seen sitting on a horse holding his weapon. This Temple is located in  a dense forests of Mimosa and Chir in the Kumaon Hills.  This Temple is famous for bells and Devotees who are visiting this Temple make wishes and hang bells. This Temple was built in this 12th century and the Kings of Chand Dynasty worked hard in building this Temple. Golu Devta was the General of King Biju Bahadur's Army of the Chand Dynasty from 1638 to1678. The Champawat Town is considered as the orgin of Golu Devta. This Temple also has Sub Shrines for local Deities namely Harishchand Devjyum, Sem Devjyum and they are considered to be the uncles of Lord Golu Devta. Since Almora being a famous Hill Station and  Tourist spot this Temple is always full of Tourists  throughout the year apart from the other normal Devotees.
