Devuni Kadapa name is derived from Gadapa (Gateway), a Telugu word which means Devuni (God’s) Kadapa (Gateway), God’s Gateway or Doorstep. It is believed that every pilgrim who visits  the Temple of Sri Venkateshwara at Tirumala should visit this Temple on their way to Tirumala only then only it is believed that their visit to Tirumala is complete. The Idol of the Lord Venkateswara has been established by Kripacharya.  Hence the ancient name of Devuni Kadapa is also mentioned in Puranas as “Kripavathi Kshetram.  Devuni Kadapa is also known as "Pata Kadapa/Old Kadapa - Tirumala Toli Gadapa" is a part of Kadapa city and is considered the doorstep of Tirumala, the Holy Abode of Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy. In the past, Pilgrims first visited the Devuni Kadapa Temple before going to Tirumala Balaji Temple. Dancing Lord Ganapathi idol is present at Mukha Mandapam of this Temple.  Also, Golden a  Lizard Idol is present on the roof of the Temple, and Devotees touch it with their hands  to get rid of their Doshas. The Temple Architecture is in Vijayanagara Style. This sacred place is said to be visited by the great Telugu poet Kshetrayya, Tallapaka Annamayya and all Shankaracharyas of Advaita Vedanta Mutt. This Temple is also known as Sri Lakshmi Venkateshwara Swamy Temple as it has a West facing 5 tiered Rajagopuram. On entering the Temple there is a Vishnu Paadham or Divine Feet beyond which is a Dwajasthambam, Bali Peedam and a Garudalwar Sannadhi facing the Moolasthanam. In the Sanctum Sanctorum Sri Lakshmi Venkateshwara Swamy Perumal is seen in a standing posture all alone and facing West. A close look beyond the Presiding Deity reveals that there is a rock cut Anjaneya Vigraham behind the Moolavar. This is due to the fact that this Temple was initially a Hanuman Temple only which later changed to Venkateshwara Swamy Temple. Next to the Main Shrine is another Shrine for the  Padmavathy Thaayar who is seen in a seated posture facing the West.  There is a Sub Shrine for Vinayagar and Aandal. This Temple has an exclusive Sorga Vaasal.  Administration of the Devuni Kadapa Temple was taken over by TTD (Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams). Hundreds of Muslims visit Devuni Kadapa Temple and offer prayers to Lord Balaji on Ugadi day. They believe that Lord Venkateswara Swamy's Consort Bibi Nancharamma is a Muslim. This tradition of  offering Prayers to Lord Balaji by Muslims has been going on for centuries in Kadapa. They offer Vepapathi to Lord Balaji, which is made of sugarcane and jaggery. Insofar as this Temple is concerned there is virtually no difference beween a Hindu and a Muslim coming and Praying here before the Almighty.
