The actual name of the Temple is Hazara Ramachandra Swamy Temple and it is located at the centre of Hampi which is well known for its ancient Temples. Hazara Rama refers to 1000 Ramas within a single Temple. Though small in area this Temple ostensibly is very famous in Hampi after the Virupaksha Temple. Hazara Rama Temple was built in the 15th century by King Vijayanagara Devaraiya II. In the earlier days it is said that the King and his Royal Clan use to visit this Temple quite frequently to offer their Prayers. This East facing Temple does not have a Rajagopuram.  Instead there is a multi pillared East facing Gopuram through which Devotees and Tourists could enter. There is a Neivedya Peedam or Bali Peedam but the Dwajasthambam or Flag Staff is visibly missing. The Temple was ravaged during the Moghul Rule and all its Deities were shattered to smithereens. Hence even today this Temple though called as Hazara Rama Temple does not have the Image of the supposed Presiding Deity Lord Rama or His Consort Seetha. There are several multi pillared Mandapams and all those pillars have intricate carving of Deities designed on them. The Ranga Mandapam is located just before the Sanctum Sanctorum and the four pillars of the Ranga Mandapam are built with sparkling black stones which is eye captivating to any tourist visiting here. The Sanctum Sanctorum too is East facing but is devoid of any Deity. The Idol of Kalki riding a Horse looks eye appealing. The Idols and Images embossed on the Pillars and the Walls of the Temple portray Horses, Elephants, Attendants, Soliders and Dancing Women in an eye captivating way. The outer peripheral of the Temple has several multi pillared Mandapam with inticate carvings designed on these pillars too. There is another multi pillared Mandapam in the far South of this Temple and Divine functions and rituals were supposed to have been conducted there in those days. The East facing Goddess Seetha’s Shrine too is empty with no Deity. Even the outer walls of this Temple bears the Idols depicting Ramayana which stands testimony to the deft hands of the craftsmen of those days. A lush green lawn is maintained in one corner of the Temple. On the other side of the road is an Idol of Hanuman or Anjaneya Swamy and it seems that He is looking towards the Hazara Rama Temple. It is regretting to note here that though this Temple is very famous there is no Deity or Poojas here. This Temple is nicely maintained and Visitors and Tourists coming here could contact Mr.Srinivas 94820 06390 who is well versed with Hampi and all its Temple.
