  • Military Sri Durga Devi Temple, Belgaum, Karnataka

Durgaa Devi is another form of  Goddess Sakthi.  The Military Durgaa Devi Mandir is located in Belagavi or Belgaum.  The Temple is located on the entrance of the Belgaum Fort and is maintained by the Military Authorities.  The Temple is located on the right side of the Fort's Archway, whereas a Army Guard Room is found on the left.  Entry to this Temple is narrowed and is regulated by Army Men.  At times on festival days the Policemen too join the Army Men in regulating the steady flow of Devotees.  The Military Ganapathy and the Military Mahadev Temples too are located nearby on the Bangalore-Pune National Highway, Belgaum.  The Maratha Light Infantary Regimental Centre are the custodian of the Temple.  The Temple dates back to the British Regime and gains importance due to its stratagic location to Goa which was then under the Portuguese.   Goddess Durga Devi is considered to be very powerful here and most Civilian & Military Men come and Pray here.  Mode of Praying and Vehicular parking is so unique and overlooked and regulated by the Army Staff.   The Pandits of Maratha Light Infantary are the official Purohits of these three Temples.   This Temple is run under the care of The Military Cantonment Board.
