Mahalaxmi Temple is considered to be one of the Premium Temples in India. Many consider Bombay or Mumbai to be one of the richest and wealthiest cities due to the presence of this Temple. This Temple was built in the 1831 by Dhakji Dadaji. Though the Presiding Deity of this Temple is Goddess Mahalakshmi it is dedicated to all the three Goddesses namely Saraswathi, Mahalakshmi and Maa Kaali. These three Idols are decorated with Nose Rings, Ear Rings, Gold Bangles and Pearl Necklaces. Goddess Mahalakshmi is seated in the centre holding a Lotus Flower. Devotees from Mumbai City, Thane, Navi Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra flock here to have a glimpse of Goddess Mahalakshmi. Praying to Her is believed to uplift the financial position of anyone. During the period of Moghul Regime the Hindus had a natural fear that these Goddesses would be demolished and the Temple ruined and hence a few hundred of them joined together and safely immeresed these Idols in the water of Worli Sea. Later during the British Regime while building the bridge these Idols were pulled out and a Temple built. Actually this Temple has been built on a small hillock and could be considered as a hill top Temple. There is a small Shiva Temple at the entrance of this Mahalakshmi Temple. Navarathri festival is celebrated in a grand manner with great joy and Devotees congragate here and stand serpentine queues in order to have a glimpse of Goddess Mahalakshmi and obtained Her Divine Blessings. Mobile Phones and Photography are strictly banned within the Temple premises. There are rows and rows of shops outside the Temple selling Divine articles, Pooja items, Souvenir of Goddess Mahalakshmi and all other eatables too.
