This Temple is located in Kempegowda Nagar in Bengaluru. Sri Gavi Gangadhareshwara Temple is also called as Gavipuram Cave Temple. The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Gavi Gangadhareshwara who is an incarnation of Lord Shiva. This Temple is built by following the Rock Cut style of Architecture and was built by Kempe Gowda-I in the 16th Century AD and he is believed to be the founder of this city. Some say that Gautama Maharashi and Bharadwaja Munivar had built this Temple during Vedic Period. This Temple is considered as an Architectural marvel. There is an Idol of Agnimurthi and it is believed that whoever worship this Deity will be cured from all their problems. This Temple was built from a natural cave in Gavipuram and was cut into a monolithic stone. There are two granite pillars which supports the giant disk of Sun and Moon and the other has a Nandhi at the top. One of the interesting fact of this Temple is that on Makara Shankranthi Day, the Sun Rays falls on the face of the Lingam and then these Rays pass through the horns of the Nandhi. This Temple is protected under the Karnataka Ancient and Historical Monuments and Archaeological Site and Remains Act of 1961. It is believed that there is a tunnel leading to Kashi from here and till date only two men named Nishant and Prem went into this Tunnel and had never returned back.
