Siruvapuri Shri Balasubramaniaswamy Temple, Siruvapuri, Near Ponneri, Tamil Nadu

  • Siruvapuri Shri Balasubramaniaswamy Temple, Siruvapuri, Near Ponneri, Tamil Nadu

The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Lord Balasubrahmanyam or Lord Murugan. The Utsava Moorthy of this Temple is known as Valli Manalar.  Initially this place was called as Siruvar Poor Puram  or Chinnambedu.  Some say that Lava and Kusa who were kids of Lord Rama lived here for sometime and as kids they joined together and fought a pitched battle with Lord Rama and hence the name Siruvapuri. This Temple also has Sub Shrine for Lord Annamalayan and He Blesses His Devotees along with His Consort Goddess Unnamulayai Amman. The statue of Saint Arunagirinathar is seen facing the Sanctum Sanctorum of the Temple since it is believed that Saint Arunagirinathar  praised Lord Murugan here in his Thiruppugazh while visiting this Temple. There is a Statue of a Peacock which is believed to be the Vahanam of Lord Muruga and it is made out of a green stone.  There are Sub Shrines for Ganesha, Sri Muneeswarar, Sri Venkatrayar and Bhairavar.  Unlike other Temples Navagraha Sannadhi is kept in a special enclosure with a roofing and a gate.  Usually in other Temples the Naga Devathas are kept under some tree in an open space but here the Naga Devathas are placed in an enclosure which has got a roofing and a gate.  There is a Thiru Kalyana Mandapam where the Celetial Wedding could be celebrated.  The Temple also has a Weighing Scale or a Thulabaaram for the benefit of the Devotees.   Karthikai, Panguni Utharam attracts huge number of Devotees from far flung areas.  It is said that those who visit this Temple and Pray to Lord Almighty on a particular day of a week for a continuous 6 week period would be buying and shifting to their new house.

Devotees coming to this Temple are expected to go the nearby Agastheeswarar Temple and Pray before Lord Shiva.  It is believed that going to both the Temples on the same day would bring enormous good fortune and good health to such Devotees.
