Udupi Shri Krishna Temple is located in a picturesque ambience among dense forestry in Karnataka. The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Lord Krishna who is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. He Blesses His Devotees from His West facing Shrine in the form of a small boy. Due to His young age Udupi Krishna is called here as Bala Krishna. This Temple was built by Great a Vaishinavaite Saint Madhavachari in the 13th Century. Here Lord Krishna can be seen only through small holes found in the Kanakadasha Kindi installed in front of Lord Krishna. The Presiding Deity cannot be worshipped by Devotees by entering the Sanctum Sanctorum directly. Instead Devotees have to line up and have the darshan of their favourite God Bala Krishna through a nine hole window known as Navagraha Kidiki. Lord Krishna could be viewing from here and He is seen along with a flute in one hand. There is no artificial illumination or lighting in the Sanctum Sanctorum and He has to be viewing only with the aid of natural light and oil lamp. Due to several factors Udupi Krishna Temple is referred as Mathura of South India. There is a statue of the Great Saint Kanakadasha in a Mandapam that is constructed adjacent to the Sanctum Sanctorum. The Idol of Lord Krishna was found by Saint Madhavachari inside a huge ball of Gopichand. Saint Madhavachari ordered the Temple Management to install Lord Krishna's Idol facing West. There are Sub Shrines for Garudalwar, Anjaneyar, Pandarpur Vittal, Pillayar and Subramaniyar. There is a Navagraha enclosure too and close to it is a Deity for the Panchamuga Anjaneyar. There are several huge buildings relating to this Temple which is being used as Devasthanam and for other religious purposes. There is another huge building called Anna Brahmma where two floors are exclusively used for Annadhanam to all visiting Devotees. In case of any Medical Emergency the Temple runs a Dhanvanthri Medical Centre. There is a Vasantha Mandapam in which Divine funstions etc could be held. The amazing fact about Udupi Sri Krishna Temple is that it has been built with huge wooden frame and wood instead of cement and concrete. The Temple has a huge Pushkarani which is kept clean and several Divine Images are drawn all around this Sacred Tank. A small boat is available there for being used during the Float Festival or Theppostavam. There are two huge Chariots close to the Pushkarani. Since the Idol of Lord Krishna found in this Temple looks to be very beautiful everyday thousands of Devotees from different parts of India visit this Temple in order to get the Blessings of the Almighty.
