Triprayar has become a very important place religiously and is located in close proximity to Guruvayur and Thrissur. Sri Ramaswami Temple or otherwise known as Sri Rama Temple is located in Thriprayar on the banks of a Canal known as Canoli Canal or Theevra. This important Canal flows between Kodungallur and Kozhikode. Since the waterbody sorrounds the Temple on all three sides the name Tripuraiyar became Thriprayar. This Temple has become very important in recent years and Triprayar Town also is growing very fast due to the presence of this Temple. This Sri Rama Temple is West facing but the Presiding Deity of Sri Ramaswami faces East in the Moolasthanam. The Presiding Deity is also called as Thriprayarappan or Triprayar Devar. The Idol of Lord Rama looks Eastwards and is majestic and resplendent to look at. Sri Ramaswami is seen in the Sanctum Sanctorum with four arms and in each of them He holds a Conch, a Disc, a Bow and a Garland which fascinates the Devotees who look at Him with awe. Within the same Sanctum there is an Image of Dhakshinamoorthy. The Image / Idol of Dhaksinamoorthy is attributed to be in Shivalingam form and adorned with Rudhraksha Beeds, Crescent, Moon etc. Aspects of Lord Shiva and Lord Brahmma too could be ascribed to the Presiding Deity here and hence He is rightly called as Thirumoorthy. The Temple's architecture is mostly Kerala based and is rich with sculptures, murels and other types of wood works. The golden thazikakoodam, the conical copper roof of the Moolasthanam and the copper plated Namaskaara Mandapam look glittering when seen by any Devotee. Many believe that Sri Hanuman dwells within the Namaskaara Mandapam and hence it is revered by all Devotees. There is a belief that any Devotee who come and Pray to the Namaskaara Mandapam are generally relieved of all their physical ailments and mental agony. Though Hanuman is revered and Prayed by all Devotees there is no separate Idol for Lord Hanuman here. The Temple is one among the Naalambalam and each one of them is dedicated to the four brothers. Triprayar is dedicated to Lord Rama, Koodalmanikyam to Bharatha, Thirumoozikkulam to Lakshmana and Payammel dedicated to Shathrugna. There are two Sub Shrines for Ganapathy, while one faces the East, the other one is South facing. There is a Sub Shrine for Ayyappan or Sastha. Triprayar Thevar is construed to be the Presiding Deity during the Arattupuzhaa Pooram. There is a Sub Shrine on the Northern side for Goshala Krishnan who is none other than Lord Krishna Himself and He is East facing. Ekadesi is very important here and during the days of Ekadesi several Tuskers and other Elephants are lined up and their forhead are adorned with Gold plated Nethipattam. During this time Chenda Melam and all other type of musicial Instruments are played in high pitch sound much to the tumultuous welcome of the large gathering of Devotees congregated on this occasion. During this time the Kerala Police do an excellent job outside the Temple premises in queueing up all Devotees in a single line formation to let them inside the Temple. In stark reality the Temple lacks in volounteers due to which there is almost a stampede in the Main Shrines and the Sub Shrines and this aspect has to be looked into. Outside the Temple there are rows and rows of shops selling all types of fancy items, Divine articles, Pooja items etc. On special occasions Devotees who visit this Temple could find it very cumbersome to park their vehicle in their parking slots which generally is very crammed. The Temple authorities are generous and munificent since they run Hospitals, Institutions etc. In recent days PM Narendra Modi made it a point to visit Triprayar and seek the Blessings of Sri Ramaswamy and ever since then the Temple is seeing an upsurge in all matters. In recent days Devotees who visit Guruvayurappan Temple in Guruvayur make it a habit to visit Sri Rama Temple in Triprayar too.
