There are multiple entrances leading to the Kediliappar or Atchayalingeswarar Temple in Kilvelur. The Rajagopuram on the Eastern side is 5 tiered which the other  three Rajagopurams on the three remaining directions are just 3 tiered. The full name of the Temple is Arulmigu Sundaragujambigai Samedha Akshayalinga Swamy Temple and it is also called as Kediliyappar Temple by many. While Akshayalingeswara Swamy denotes the God's name in Sanskrit Kediliyappar denotes the Tamil name of the God. This Temple is supposed to be a Maada Kovil. There is a Bali Peedam, a Dwajasthambam and a massive white Nandhi Vaahanam placed on a huge four pillared Mandapam. Being a Maada Kovil Devotees may have to climb around 20 to 22 steps to reach the Temple premises. The Moolavar, Akshayalingeswarar alias Kediliyappar is found East facing in the Sanctum Sanctorum in the form of a Shiva Lingam. He is believed to be an incarnation of Lord Shiva. At the threshold of the Moolasthanam is a pair of black Dwara Baalakas standing guard to the Presiding Deity. The Natarajar Sannadhi of this Temple attracts several Devotees since instead of the usual left leg Lord Natarajar is seen lifting His right leg in an unusual manner while dancing. Hence Lord Natarajar is known here as Valadhu Paadha Natarajar. The Ambal occupies a separate Shrine and is East facing in a standing posture. She is known as Sundaragujambal alias Vanamulai Nayagi. There is a Idakai Pillayar and another Pillayar is known as Valakai Pillaiyar and close to this are the Idols of Kasi Viswanathar and Murugan. Around the Koshtam there are Idols for Lingothbhavar, Pillayar, Dhakshinamoorthy and Durgai. In the outer peripheral the 63 Naayanmaars Idols are displayed. Likewise the Naalvar, Pillayar, Juradevar, Vadamalai Pillai Kattalaithar, Thukkaji & Thulajaji, Kaatchialitha Nathar, Padhari Vinayagar, Agastheeswarar, Viswanathar, Gajalakshmi (Mahalakshmi), Jambhukeshwarar, Kailasanathar, Brihadeeswarar, Annamalaieswarar, Ekambareshwarar, Bhairavar, Suryan, Chandran and Anjuvattathu Amman are found in their Sub Shrines. Unlike other Temple the Navagraha Sannadhi is not jostled but instead each Navagraha Vigraham is kept side by side. The Kubera Sub Shrine is another special feature of this Temple drawing huge number of Devotees on select auspicious days. The Sthala Viruksham of this Temple is an Ilandhai Maram which is also called as Padhari Vanam. A pertinent point is that Sage Agasthiyar has placed a Shiva Lingam just beneath the Sthala Viruksham and had started Praying and this Shiva Lingam is found there even today. The Theertham of this Temple is known as Saravana Poigai and it is believed that Lord Murugan had pierced the ground using His Spear and had brought the water. Apart from this there are Brahmma Theertham, Yama Theertham, Agni Theertham, Surya Theertham, Indra Theertham, Sesha Theertham and Kubera Theertham. Vinayagar Chathurthi, Aippasi Annabishegam, Arudhra Dharisanam, Masi Magam, Pradhosham, Navarathri, Maha Shivarathiri are some of the festivals are celebrated in a grand manner. It is one of the landmark Temples in South India and Nagapattinam. The Temple has been built in a massive area and it has a Temple Kitchen and an Annadhana Koodam. The Temple Ghoshala too is maintained well.
