Chikkaballapur is also spelt and called as Chik Ballapur in recent years by many. Though this Temple is called as Sri Bhoga Nandeeshwara Temple it is actually a twin Temple comprising of Sri Bhoga Nandiswara Temple and Sri Arunachaleshwarar Temple. Ir is located in Nandi Village at the foothills of Nandi Hills on the outskirts of Chikkaballapur. Sri Bhoga Nandhishwara Temple was built earlier and later Sri Arunachaleswar Temple was added. This Temple was built in 800 AD by Ratnavali who hails from Bana Vidyadhara Dynasty. These Temples had been built in a sprawling campus with lush green lawn all over. The Temple also has an unused multi pillared Mandapam built parallel to its compound wall. The Temple which is centuries old does not have a Rajagopuram. On entering the Temple there are four huge Viruksham or Peepal Tree with a lush green lawn. Beneath another huge Tree there are several Idols for the Naga Devathas kept at different places close to one another. There is a North facing Veerabadra Sub Shrine and they have installed a coloured Idol of Veerabadra Swamy on top of it. Closeby is a huge dilapidated Temple Car and next to it is a huge Mandapam which could be accessed through 15 to 20 steps. There is a East facing Gopuram through which Devotees are allowed. Sri Arunachaleswarar Moolasthanam is East facing and there is a Dwajasthambam with multiple Nandhi Vaahanams facing the Sanctum Sanctorum. Sri Arunachaleswarar who is an incarnation of Lord Shiva is in the form of a Shiva Lingam. Closeby are the Idols of Shiva Parvathi, Murugan and Ganapathy. In the centre is the Shrine of Uma Maheswarar who is seen here along with Parvathi in a Kalyana Kolam. Hence this Shrine is refered as Kalyana Mandapam. This Shrine simply dazzles to the eyes of the Devotees when seen with the two Dwara Baalakas who stand guard at the threshold. All the multiple pillars in and around this area are intricately carved with eye captivating Divine Idols and is a feast to the eyes of any Devotees viewing it. Sri Bhoga Nandeeshwarar Shrine is also East facing with several Nandhi Vaahanam kept close to it. There are Idols of Chola Maharaja and Vishnu Suryar close to the Shrine of Sri Bhoga Nandeeswarar. The Navagraha Sannadhi is placed on top of a pedestal. Closeby is a Temple Well used for Divine purposes and the Temple Vaahanams are stacked in another shelter next to it. Notable in the outer peripheral are the Sub Shrines of Goddess Abitha Kuchalambal and Goddess Girijambigai and both of them stand East facing. There are Sub Shrines for Kamateshwara, Durgai, Pillayar and Brahmma. The few Naga Devathas Idols kept near the Thulasi Maadam looks impressive. Vinayagar Chathurthi, Aippasi Annabishegam, Arudhra Dharisanam, Masi Magam, Pradhosham, Navarathri, Maha Shivarathiri are some of the festivals are celebrated in a grand manner. This Temple gains historical importance and attracts a lot of Devotees who happen to visit Nandi Hills as Tourists. Hence there is a steady stream of Devotees and Tourists alike. This Temple has a modern Pushkarani or Sacred Tank. Cars and other Vehicles could be parked all around the Temple. The only point of eye sore is that the Toilets meant for Men and Women are totally unusable since it has been locked and kept all the time. This twin Temple is under and control of the Archaeological Survey of India who have been doing a fairly good job maintaining this Temple nicely.
