Sri Dhamodhara Narayana Perumal Temple is located in Thirukannankudi very close to the Thiruvarur to Nagapattinam Highway. Actually the Temple's Urchavamoorthy is Sri Damodhara Narayana Perumal and the Temple is being refered by that name. The actual Moolavar or the Presiding Deity is Sri Loganatha Perumal and hence some Purists refer this Temple as Sri Loganantha Perumal Temple only. The Temple obviously bears the Chola style of Architecture but at the same time it has to be accepted that the then Vijayanagara Kings and the Madurai Naayaks had lent the big support in bringing this Temple to what it is today. The Temple has been sung high by the Alwars in their Naalyira Divya Prabhandham. The Temple has a small compound wall along with an Arch comprising Idols of Damodhara Perumal along with His twin Consorts with Garudalwar and Anjaneyar either side. Beyond it stands a five tiered East facing Rajagopuram. In between the Rajagopuram and the Arch there is a Udayavar Sannadhi and close to it is the Temple Office. Facing the Moolasthanam is a small Bali Peedam, a Dwajasthambam and a Garudalwar Shrine. To the left are three Sub Shrines which are North facing and these are meant for the Alwars, Manavala Maamunigal and Thirumangai Alwar. On the way to the Sanctum Sanctorum there is a South facing Sri Ramar Sannadhi in which they have designed a Gopuram like structure. Lord Rama, Seetha, Lakshmana and Anjaneyar are found together. At the threshold of the Moolasthanam is a Pair of colourful Dwara Baalakas guarding the Sanctum Sanctorum and they are called as Sri Jayan and Sri Vijayan. In the Sanctum Sanctorum the Presiding Deity or the Moolavar is known as Sri Loganatha Perumal and He is found East facing. The Urchavamoorthy seen in the Moolasthanam is Sri Damodhara Narayana Perumal who is seen along with Sri Devi, Bhoo Devi, Andal and a Calf Idol. Just outside the Moolasthanam there are Idols for Sri Aandal, Sri Kesavan, Sri Devi, Sri Madhavan, Sri Bhoomi Devi, Sri Narayanan and Sri Vishvaksenar. There is a lovely gold plated dazzling Kubera Idol which has been fixed to the walls of the Temple near the Moolasthanam. In the outer peripheral the Sannadhi of Sri Aravinda Nayagi Thaayar is located in a multi pillared Mandapam and She is East facing. While the Aravinda Nayagi Thaayar is the Urchavar, the Moolavar Thaayar here is known as Loganayaki Thaayar. At the threshold of the Thaayar Sannadhi paintings of two Dwara Baalakis have been drawn. At the rear of the Temple there is another 3 tiered West facing Rajagopuram. Close to the Western Rajagopuram is a Magizha Maram beneath which several Naagar Idols have been kept. On the Northern outer peripheral there is a Paramapadha Vaasal or a Sorga Vaasal which is thrown open to the Devotees only during Vaikunda Ekadesi days. The Temple has a Mada Palli or a Temple Kitchen for distributing Prasadam etc. It also has an exclusive Yaagasaalai for various functions and a Nandhavanam or a Temple Garden. The Sthala Viruksham is a Magizha Maram and the Pushkarani is known as Shravana Theertham and Nithya Pushkarani. There is a story behind the Sthala Viruksham. It is said that Sage Vashistar had made an Idol of the God with a butter and he had placed it down to Worship it. During that time a small kid came in and took away the Butter Idol and started running away helter skelter. It was too tough for Sage Vashista to follow the young boy since the kid was too fast and he vanished after running till the Maghizha Maram and then disappeared. It is hence said that this Sthala Viruksham doesn't need any water from outsiders and Kaaya Magizha Maram. This Temple is considered as Pancha Krishna Kshethram.
