Sri Ranaganatha Swamy Temple is located in a hilltop in a distant village called Madagondanahalli or Madigondanahalli in Magadi Taluk. This is an ancient Temple dating back to more than 900 years. At the outset there is a North facing Welcome Arch close to the road which leads from Tumkur to Hassan. There is a motorable ghat road or Devotees can also reach the Temple top through steps. Initially this Temple began with a humble beginning with Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy as its Presiding Deity. After a few decades the Idol of Sri Ranganatha Swamy was added and He took over as the Presiding Deity. Even today the Temple is called as Sri Ranganatha Swamy Temple though His Idol is not there. During the times of Moghul the Muslims entered this Temple forcibly and demolished and ravaged the entire Temple inclusive of its Presiding Deity and other Deities found in the Temple premises. A few years ago the Temple was totally rebuilt and a 5 tiered Rajagopuram too was constructed. A huge South facing Panchamuga Anjaneya Swamy or Panchamuka Hanuman coloured Idol was built on an elevated podium. It is now construed that Anjaneya Swamy dwells in this Temple in full bloom though Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy and Sri Ranganatha Swamy dwelled here in earlier times. There is a dazzling golden colour 5 tiered West facing Rajagopuram and at the centre of it is a lovely coloured Idol of Sri Ranganatha Swamy in a reclined posture. The West facing Idol of Sri Ranganatha Swamy is flanked by Sri Devi and Bhoo Devi. Sri Ranganatha Swami is guarded atop by a huge five headed Serpent. Just beneath the Rajagopuram there are two huge coloured Idols of Dwara Baalakas who too face Westwards. In the same Rajagopuram there is a East facing Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy's coloured Idol facing the Moolasthanam. They have constructed two huge Mandapams on either side of the Rajagopuram meant for Divine purposes and functions, and on top these two Mandapams, are two huge Idols of a Sangu and a Chakkaram. The Shrine of Sri Ranganatha Swami has a stone Dwajasthambam or Flag Staff facing the Moolasthanam. There are coloured Idols of Maha Vishnu with Sri Devi and Bhoo Devi, Ganapathy, Sri Narasimha Swami, Garudalwar and Anjaneya Swamy atop the Gopuram of this Shrine. On entering the Sanctum Sanctorum there are two black Dwara Baalaka Idols on either side. Then there is a Garudalwar's metallic Idol which is kept facing the Moolasthanam. In the Sanctum Sanctorum there is a huge black Sthambam which is reverred and considered as Sri Ranganatha Swamy Himself. The Sthambam has an Image of Anjaneya Swamy embossed in its lower end. Thirumann and Sri Churnam are displayed all over the black Sthambam. Close to this there is a metallic Idol of Sri Ranganatha Swamy, Sri Lakshmi Narasimhar and Panchamaga Anjaneya Swamy. This Temple is famous for the Butter Alankaram done to its Deity. Recently they have built Sacred Tank or a Pushkarani close to the Rajagopuram. This Temple has CCTV coverage. Close to the Panchamuga Aanjaneyar Idol is a Modern Hall which could be used for Wedding purposes or other Sacred Functions. Hanumath Jayanthi, Narasimha Jayanthi are some of the functions celebrated in a grand manner.
