Temple is located in Srikalahasti close to River Swarnamuki in Chittoor District. The Presiding Deity is Sri Kalahasteeswara, an incarnation of Lord Shiva. His Consort Parvathi is worshipped here as Goddess Gnanaprasunambika. Lord Shiva is in the form of a Lingam made of white stone resembling the Trunk of an Elephant. The Temple was built during the Pallava Dynasty. The Cholas & Vijayanagara Rulers too had a big hand in its Development. Saint Nakkeerar had composed about this Temple to a great extent. Its a South facing Temple with the Sanctum facing West. The Vinayaga seen in the Underground Shrine is known as Paadala Vinayagar. Sri denotes a Spider, Kala denotes a Snake & Hasti denotes an Elephant. Hence the name SRIKALAHASTI. There is a 120 feet main Gopuram & a 100 Pillared Mandapam. It is here that Kannappa Nayanar offered both his Eyes to cover the blood flowing from the Lingam before Lord Shiva stopped him & granted Mukthi to him. The Main Deity is worshipped as Vaayu Lingam and the Temple is said to be the Kasi of South India. The Sthala Viruksham of this Temple is Magizha Maram and the Theertham or Pushkarani is Swarnamuki River. Free Annadhanam and Prasadam are given to the Devotees. There are lots of Shops selling Divine Books & Toys etc. Ample Car Parking & Two Wheeler Parking space is available.  The Temple is considered as an important Pancha Bootha Sthalam. The Temple gains prominence since its a Raahu - Kethu Parihaara Sthalam.
