Shri Kothanda Rama Temple or Ramalayam is located in Gollala Mamidada near Kakinada on the banks of River Antharvahini or Thulyabhaga which is a small tributary of River Godhavari. The initial construction of this Temple was done in a small way in 1889 by Dwarampudi Brothers Shri.Subbi Reddy and Shri Rami Reddy who donated most of their lands for the sake of this Temple and the initial Idols of Rama and Seetha were carved out of wood. The Temple grew in size and reached to an average level in the year 1939.  The Rajagopuram at the East was built between 1948 -1950 whereas the other Rajagopuram in the West was built during 1956 - 1958. The East facing Rajagopuram measures upto 170 feet high and comprises of 9 storeys and 5 Kalasams whereas the Wast facing Rajagopuram measures upto a height of 210 feet and comprises of 11 storeys along with 5 Kalasams. Both the Rajagopurams have in it many different Idol and Images depicting stories from Ramayana, Bhagavatham and Mahabharatha. These Images are sculpted in a meticulous way and is a feast to the eyes of any Devotee visiting this Kothanda Ramaswamy Kshethram or Devasthanam. On entering the Temple there is an Image of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi along with Ganapathi. There is a Nandhi Vaahanam and Simha Vaahanam beneath them. Closer to the Sanctum Sanctorum is a separate Sub Shrine for Ganapathy and he is found in a seated posture with the full Idol made of Silver.  The Sanctum Sanctorum is located in the ground floor of this Temple and Lord Rama along with Goddess Seetha along with Lakshmana are seen in a standing posture where Lord Rama is armed with a Kothandam. The entire black Idols or Vigrahams of Rama and others looks so Divine and resplendent. Lord Anjaneya who is not found along with Rama in the Sanctum Sanctorum is seen in another Sub Shrine facing the Moolasthanam. They levy a flat fee of Rs.50/- for any Devotee going up. The staircase leading to the first floor and other subsequent floors seem to be too narrow and slippery and hence elders and kids are advised to move up or come down very carefully following one another in tandem. The first floor of the Temple is very uniquely designed with several angled mirrors which have been placed at different angles for giivng different results to the eyes of the Devotee. There are several Idols depicting the Ramar Pattabishekam where different Saints and Sages are also seen Blessing Lord Rama. If one views the mirror from a particular angle he would see the Image of Lord Rama only from the entire Ramar Pattabisheka scene. If the same Devotee moves a little further away from his original position he would be missing Lord Rama and will be able to see Goddess Seetha only. The entire first floor has been carefully designed with such mirrors so that Devotees and kids viewing it would be simply thrilled on seeing them. The Ganapathi Sub Shrine found close to the Moolasthanam has its upper roofing in the first floor in the form of Dome with the Trident on top of it. There is a glass house within which Lord Rama, Goddess Seetha, Lakshmana and Hanuman made out of Silver are kept. In a nutshell any Devotee visiting this Temple would be happy to see a mixture of a conventional Rama Temple mixed with modern scientific technology added to it. The Temple has a store house where various Vaahanams like Sesha Vahanam, Camel Vaahanam etc are kept. Devotees who are fit and healthy could climb all the way up till the 11th floor and come down through the staircase. The Temple's outer wall has been painted gorgeously with various colours and at one of the entry points there is a huse Idol of Lord Anjaneya Swamy with two Camels standing beside Him. The Temple has ample Car Parking space. Sri Rama Navami in particular draws lakhs of Devotees from far and near. Devotees who wish to overstay here must have to find out Lodging for themselves. Shri Murali Krishna Srinivasa Reddy who runs the Temple Administration is a third generation family member and it was his forefathers who had built this Temple. The Temple's Office is located in the ground floor of the Temple premises.
