Maha Nandi Temple is one of the 9 Nandhi Temples in and around Maha Nandi and Nandyal area.  There is a general belief that any Devotee who visits  all the Nava Nandhi Temples (9 Nandhi Temples) from Sunrise to Sunset on the same day would get rid of all their sins and attain Moksham.  Mahanandi is located to the East of Nallamalla  forest range.  The Temple authorities levy a fee for any vehicle that enters Mahanandi and cars can be parked anywhere at will.  Just before entering the Temple gates is a huge and massive Nandhi Statue made out of Black marble and kept on an elevated platform with the Nandi Bhagwan in a sitting posture.  The Temple is presumed to have been built around 1500 years before. There is a Welcome Arch at the entrance of the Temple and Lord Vinayaga's and Lord Murugan's Idol  are placed at either end.  In the center of the Welcome Arch a Gomatha's Idol is dispalyed.  One has to pass through the massive iron gates to enter the Temple and on either side of the small Rajagopuram are two long tiled corridors with black and red painted stone pillars.  On the left is a very tall Statue of a Goddess in a standing posture.  Close to it are several Amman statues which are neatly kept side by side.  Opposite to it too similar statues of Lord Ganesha could be found playing different musical instruments.  The Rajagopuram is not too tall when compared to other Temples but in the center of the Rajagopuram they have displayed a colourful and gorgeous image of God Shiva and Goddess Parvathy who seem to be in a sitting posture Blessing their Devotees.  At the thershold of the entrance there is an Amman Statue on the right whereas Lord Shiva and His entire family statue is found on the left.  On going further into the Temple there are two parellel Pushkaranis which are supposed to be Sacred.  The names of these two Pushkaranis are Vishnu Gundam and Brahmma Gundam.  There is another Pushkarani deep within the Temple and this known as Rudhra Gundam.  There is a Vasantha Mandapam with five Shiva Lingams inside the Pushkarani.  All the three Pushkaranis which are supposed to be sacred are totally sacrileged and misused as swimming pools with Couples, Youths and Kids totally converting it as a picnic point and bathing with under garments which doesn't speak well of the Temple Administration.  Just before entering the Sanctum Sanctorum is an Idol for Lord Ganesha.  The Presiding Deity in the Sanctum Sanctorum is Sri Maha Nandeeshwara Swamy who is an incarnation of Lord Shiva and He is found as a Swayambhu Lingam.  There are no Purohits or Poojaris in the Sanctum Sanctorum and the Temple Lower Grade Admin Staff collects bribe money at will and depending on the amount of money that the Devotees tip him they are allowed to stand and Pray.  Those unwilling to pay are necked out of this area in a flash.  The Consort here is known as Goddess Kameshwari Devi who is an incarnation of Goddess Parvathy and She Blesses Her Devotees from Her Sub Shrine. There is a Rahu Kethu Sub Shrine inbetween which is a Shiva Lingam.  Despite being a Shiva Temple there is an exclusive Sub Shrine where Lord Rama, Seetha, Lakshmana and Anjaneya Swamy Idols made out of white marble stone have been kept.  Opposite to it is the Urchava Peedam where another Idol of Anjaneya Swamy is found.  There is a Navagraha enclosure beyond which is a separate Sub Shrine for Anjaneya Swamy.  The Temple has a Ghoshala and near to it are five more Shiva Lingams.  There is a huge Nagalinga Tree around which several Naga Devatha statues.  There is a huge caged enclosure where another Rahu and Kethu Bhagwan are kept and this place is called as Rahu Kethu Maha Mandapam.  A wooden Vinayagar carved out of a dead Tree and painted in yellow colour catches the eye of all Devotees.  There is a separate Shrine for Vinayaga Nandeeshwarar.  There is a mandapam where Divine functions could be held.  There are prasadam stall, a book shop and a Temple office within the premises.  Outside the Temple premises is a dilapidated mandapam found on an elevated podium but this is not functional.  Close to it they have built a huge enclosure with shutters in which the Temple Chariot is safely kept.  Mobile phones are not allowed and they are kept at a place meant for it and a fee is levied for the safe keeping of the mobile.  This Temple is reverred as a Rahu Kethu Parihaara Sthalam.

The Temple Administration has to tighten its grip and instead of plucking away the mobile phones of the Devotees they can pay more attention towards the so called Pushkarani which are grossly misused as swimming pools since unwanted activities are on the rise in and around the swimming pool and no sincere Devotee would relish such kind of sacrileged activities.
