The actual name of the Temple in full is Sri Mangleswari Udanurai Sri Mangalanathar Temple and it is situated in Uthirakosamangai close to Ramanathapuram. There are twin Rajagopurams both facing East. The Rajagopuram meant for Sri Mangalanathar is 7 tiered. The Presiding Deity is either called as Sri Mangalanathar or Sri Mangaleswarar and His Consort is known as Sri Mangaleswari or Sri Mangalambigai. The existence of the Temple is still unknown but this holy place is known well before the 14 Shivalayas of the Pandiya Kingdom sung by the Saiva Saints. The frontage of the Temple is covered by tin sheet roofing for the sake of the Devotees. To the right is a huge Pushkarani known as Mangala Theertham. It is believed that Lord Mangalanathar manifested Himself from under a Bhir Tree as a Swayambhu and hence this Bhir Tree or Ilandhai Maram is considered as the Sthala Viruksham. The Presiding Deity of Sri Mangalanathar is also called as Katchi Kodutha Nathar and Pralayakaleswarar. To the left is a huge vacant space with a podium and a bronze Nataraja Idol placed within. Divine functions where Devotees congregate in large number could be conducted here. On the way to the Moolasthanam there is a Bali Peedam, a Dwajasthambam and a Nandhi Vaahanam within a four pillared Mandapam. On either side there is a Ganapathy and a Murugan idol. In the Sanctum Sanctorum Sri Mangalanathar or Sri Mangaleswarar is found in the form of a Swayambhu Shiva Lingam. There are Idols in this Temple for the following: Chandikeshwarar, Seshadri Balar, Bhairavar, Chandran, Suryan, 63 Nayanmaars, Sapthamathas, Kanni Moola Ganapathy, Kasthuri Lingam & Ambal, Kaviraja Lingam & Ambal, Chandrakantha Lingam & Ambal, Somanatha Lingam & Ambal, Sankara Lingam & Ambal, Lingothbhavar, Valli Devasena Samedha Subramaniyar and Mahalakshmi. Most of the pillars in the Mandapam are colourfully painted in multiple colours making it look so attractive to the Devotees. There is a five tiered East facing Rajagopuram to enter directly to the Ambal Sannadhi. The Ambal is known as Sri Mangaleswari Amman and She occupies a separate Shrine within which the Urchavamoorthy too is kept. Just outside the Ambal Shrine is an Idol for Ganapathy and Murugan as Dwara Baalagas. Close to the Ambal Shrine is a Thulabaaram and an idol for Santhana Vinayagar or Irattai Pillaiyar and a Shrine for Bala Murugan. In the outer peripheral there are Sub Shrines for Kanni Moola Ganapathy, Arumuga Swamy, Sahasra Lingam and Manickavasagar. The aforesaid Sahasra Lingam gains prominence since the Sthala Viruksham is kept close to it and this Sthala Viruksham of a Ilandai Maram is believed to be centuries old. In this Temple it is very unique because Lord Natarajar gains the same amount of importance as shown to the Presiding Deity of Lord Mangalanathar. This Natarajar Idol is made out of Emerald and hence called as Maragadha Natarajar. The height of the Maragadha Natarjar Idol is almost 6 feet whereas the entrance to this Sanctum is less than 6 feet which means that this Maragadha Natarajar cannot be brought out. On the day of Arudhra Darisanam the Sandal paste around His Idol is removed and it is smeared up with the same Sandal Paste after a lapse of one day. The crowd congregating then on the day of Arudhra Darisanam is innumberable and is considered as very auspicious insofar as this Temple is concerned. The Sacred Tank or Pushkarani is known as Agni Theertham, Brahmma Theertham, Poiyar Thadam Poigai Theertham, Vyasa Theertham Sethu Madhava Theertham and Lakshmana Theertham. There is a Temple Chariot which is parked outside the premises close to the Rajagopuram. The Temple has facilities for vehicular parking. Vinayagar Chathurthi, Aippasi Annabishegam, Arudhra Dharisanam, Masi Magam, Pradhosham, Navarathri, Maha Shivarathiri are some of the festivals are celebrated in a grand manner. The Temple is taken care of and managed by Sethupathi Devasthanam.
