This Temple is located very close to Vellore Town in a place called Virinchipuram. The Temple was built by Chola Kings in the 13th Century while Bomma Nayakars did several extension works to it. The Main Deity of this Temple is Swayambu Lingam known as Margabandeeswarar. The Shiva Lingam is slightly leaning to North East direction. The Sanctum Sanctorum does not have any electrical light but is lit so brightly with Oil Lamps and it is a treat to watch. The speciality of the Sanctum Sanctorum is that it has been built in the Gaja Brushtam style. The roof above the Sanctum Sanctorum is decorated with Rudraksha Beads. The Goddess of the Temple is Maragadambal and She is located in a separate Sub Shrine Blessing Her Devotees. Just outside the Sub Shrine of Ambal the Deity of Kasi Viswanathar is kept and prayed. Next to it are Idols of Chandran, Navagraham and Kaala Bhairavar. Other Deities seen in the Temple are Ganapathy, Subramanyar, Chandra Mouleeswarar, Pancha Mukha Lingam, Saptha Mathas, 63 Nayanmaars, Naalvar, Dhakshinamoorthy, Vasudeva Perumal, Lakshmi, Saraswathy, Sundareswarar, Chandikeshwarar and Durga. In this Temple Lord Brahma is worshiped as Virinjan. He had worshipped Lord Shiva at this place and hence it got the name Virinjipuram. The outer peripherals of the Temple too is huge and it has Sub Shrines for Vallalar, Pichandeeswarar, Valliu Devasena Samedha Arumugam, Iyyapan, Naga Devathas, Sadha Siva Lingam and Pancha Lingam The highlight of the Temple is two Kalyana Mandapas located on either side of the outer enclosures. Both the mandapas are filled with beautifully carved pillars and sculptures. The Temple has a massive and a huge compound wall and fitted with giant size wooden doors. The Sthala Viruksham of the Temple is Penn Panai Maram and the Theertham is Simha Theertham. Commemorating this they have erected a huge and colourful Idol of Simha Vaahanam which stands more than 15 feet tall and beneath it is the Simha Theertham. Just outside the Temple premises there are rows of shops selling all types of Divine and Pooja Articles apart from the normal Flowers and Garlands. A huge Temple Chariot too is kept at the street corner and any number of cars and two wheelers could be parked here. This Temple attracts a lot of Devotees who come to Him and pray before Him to Bless them with a kid and such couple tie a wooden cradle hanging it from a Tree. It is believed that such Childless Devotees are very soon Blessed with a wonderful kid.
