Thennangur is a lovely village located in Tiruvannamalai District. Its a forest area and its believed that Goddess  Meenakshi was born (Some  believe that Meenakshi came out of a Yagna Fire as a 3 year old child) in Thennangur. Pujya Guruji Sri Haridos Giri Swami the foremost disciple of Pujya Sri Gnanananda Giri Swami had built a Temple complex for Goddess Meenakshi and Lord Sundareswarar.  For the installation of Lord Sunderasa, Guruji went in search of a proper idol. When he was in Varanasi, at the time of taking bath in the Holy Ganges, he got a  Bana Lingam from the Ganges with the Blessings of Gurunatha. The same was taken to Thennangur and installed there. Every year the Meenakshi-Sundareswarar Kalyanam is performed in this Temple.
