This Temple is also called as Sri Neelayadakshi Amman Temple and it is located in Melakottaivasal in Nagapattinam Town. There is a Welcome Arch on the Main Road leading to this Temple which is situated in a residential locality. At the outset there is a small Gopuram leading to the Temple and facing it is a Naagabarana Vinayagar Sannadhi. This Temple dates back to the 6th century and the architecture resembles a Gujarathi hand in it. The only other Temple resembling to this is in Kancheepuram Town. The Temple has a five tiered East facing Rajagopuram. There is a Dwajasthambam and a Bali Peedam along with a black Nandhi Vaahanam facing the Sanctum Sanctorum. Beyond it is another Bali Peedam with a taller Dwajasthambam which seems to pierce the roof and goes skywards. Next to it is a huge white Nandhi Vaahanam facing the Sanctum Sanctorum. Leading to the Moolasthanam is a multi pillared Mandapam and at the end it is a pair of Dwara Baalakas guarding the Sanctum Sanctorum. There is a Bhairava Idol and a Vinayagar Idol closse to these Dwara Baalakas. Likewise another pair of Dwara Baalakas are seen at the beginning of the next multi pillared Mandapam. The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Sri Kayarohaneshwara Swamy who is seen East facing and in the form of a Shiva Lingam. He is an incarnation of Lord Shiva and just behind the Moolavar Siva Lingam are the Idols of Somaskandar and Murugan. The Urchavamoorthis are safely enclosed and kept in a Shrine next to the Moolasthanam. The Ambal here is called as Neelayadakshi Ambal and She is seen in Her South facing Shrine in a standing posture. The Nandhi Vaahanam kept just before the Ambal Sannadhi turn its neck and head as though it looks at Sri Kayarohana Swamy with one eye and at Neelayadakshi Amman with its second eye. Lord Natarajar is seen in a dancing stance in His Shrien and it is said that this Idol is made of Blue Stone or Vaidooriyam. There are Sub Shrines for Navagraham, Baala Saneeswaran, Bhairavar, Athipatha Naayanmaar etc. Athipatha Nayanaar gains importance since He was said to be a staunch Devotee of Shiva. Hence even today fisherman of his clan are honoured here after they breathe their last. The Temple has a Madapalli or a Temple Kitchen and there is  Annadhana Koodam to serve food to the Devotees. There is a religious library with limited book on Hinduism in general and Neelayadhakshi Kayarohaneshwarar Temple in particular. The Temple has no car parking space and vehicles have to be parked at owners risk. The Sthala Viruksham of this Temple is a Mango Tree and the sacred Tank is Pundarikaksha Theertham. The Temple has a Nandhavanam. A stunning fact about this Temple is that it is believed that on Pradhosham days Lord Shiva is accompanied by Maha Vishnu to this Temple and this could never be in any other Temples.
