Sri Prasanna Varadharaja Perumal Temple is located in Shoolagiri on the foothills of three hillocks which converge together and hence it is known as Trikootachala Kshethram. The Temple is also known as Dakshina Vaikundam or Hasthashyla Sree Kshethram. There is a general belief that during the days of Mahabharatha Arjuna, the Pandava Prince had installed the Presiding Deity here. The Temple is West facing and is located in a narrow street. Devotees may have to climb around 20 steps to reach the West facing Temple. The Temple comprises of a three tiered coloured Rajagopuram. The actual name of the Temple is Sri Poo Nila Perundevinayika Samedha Sri Prasanna Varadaraja Perumal Temple. The narrow street where the Temple is located is known as Hasthagiripuram in Shoolagiri which falls under Krishnagiri District. Beneath the Rajagopuram is an Idol of Thumbikai Alwar or Ganapathy and an Anjaneya Idol. There is a Garudalwar Sannadhi facing the Moolasthanam. The Temple also has an Image of a Sangu and a Chakaram with a Thiruman Srichurnam in the centre and this could be illuminated. The multi pillared Mandapam which has numerous pillars has several Idols of Lord Krishna, Nava Narasimhar, Dasavatharam etc. There are two Dwara Baalakas ahead of the Moolasthanam and the threshold which is gold plated looks dazzling to the eyes of the Devotees. The Sanctum Sanctorum is in a multi pillared Mandapam and West facing in which Sri Prasanna Varadaraja Perumal is seen in a standing posture. Along with the Moolavar there are Idols for Nammalwar, Visvaksenar and Ramanujar. Another feature of this Temple that the Devotees could circumambulate the Moolasthanam from within. There are two adjacent Sub Shrines in which Sri Veera Anjaneyar and Sri Baktha Anjaneyar are found. Closeby is a pair of Yaagakundam. The Thaayar Sannadhi is East facing and She is known as Perundevi Mahalakshmi Thaayar who is seen in a Padmasana Kolam. Opposite to Her Shrine is a fish Symbol reminding us of Arjuna's Target and close to it is a Snake as though it would gobble the Moon. These Images are characterized on the ceiling. Lord Surya Bhagavan worships Lord Vishnu during every Utharayanam period and during these days the Sun Rays falls at the feet of the Presiding Deity here during Sun Set. This Temple is considered as Raahu Kethu Parihaara Sthalam.
