Mantralayam is a Temple Town in Kurnool District of Andhra Pradesh. It lies on the banks of River Thungabadra adjoining Karnataka. There is a Temple Arch welcoming the Devotees at the entry point. Mantralayam is known for the Brindavan of Ragavendra Swamy. Sri Guru Ragavendra Swamy lived between 1595 and 1671. He had also served as the Head of Sri Mutt of Kumbakonam from 1621 to 1671. Ragavendra Swamy was a Saint who lived in the 17th Century. He entered into a Live Samadhi right before the eyes of all His Devotees and the general public. This Mutt belongs to the Parampara of Hamsa Naamaka Paramaathma. Sri Madhavacharya, Proponent of Dwaitha Vedantha formally launched the Mutt. Sri Ragavendra Swamy was very influential in spreading Hinduism. He has a large following of Devotees even today. Many consider Him as an incarnation of Baktha Prahaladha a staunch follower of Lord Vishnu. It is believed that Ragavendra Swamy performed severe penance at the nearby Temple of Panchamuki Anjaneyar. Bichchali was another nearby place where Ragavendra Swamy visited often in connection with his Religious work. During His life time He did several miracles for the sake of His Devotees. The Sanctum Sanctorum and the entire Temple Precincts is covered has a secured roofing to so that the Devotees can have dharshan under any weather conditions. There are several other Sub Shrines. There is a Thulaabaaram facility here for the sake of Devotees. They have an exclusive Chariot too. A Huge Staue of Saint Ragavendra Swamy is erected outside the Premises. Today this Temple Town is visited by lakhs of Devotees not only from India but from abroad too. There are several Cottages and other Private hotels for out-station Devotees to stay and pray. There are several Hotels, Eateries and Shops selling all Divine articles pertaining to this Temple Town.
