Sri Sornakarshana Bairavar Temple is located in a small village named Sembiyavarambal which is situated between Nachiyar Koil and Thirunageswaram. For easy saying many Devotees refer this Temple as Ashta Bhairavar Temple. The actual entrance of the Main Temple is North facing. The Temple does not have any Rajagopuram, Dwajasthambam etc. The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Swarna Akarshana Bhairavar who is considered as an incarnation of Lord Shiva. On the external left top of the Temple they have erected the Idols of all the eight Ashta Bhairavars. There is a makeshift tinned roofing for the sake of the Devotees to save them from the vageries of Nature. On climbing a few steps the Temple Maha Mandapam is located and the Sanctum Sanctorum is found slightly elevated facing the East. The threshold leading to the Moolasthanam is fully gold plated and so are the few foot steps. In the Sanctum Sanctorum Lord Swarna Agarshana Bhairavar is seen East facing and He looks resplendent with His Consort Goddess Swarna Akarshana Bhairavi placed on His left lap. The Idols of the Presiding Deity and His Consort and the ambience of the Sanctum Sanctorum keeps any Devotee spellbound. It is believed that this Deity is a Swayambhumoorthy having been excavated centuries ago. The Urchavamoorthy Idol too is kept in the Moolasthanam itself. The Temple is unique since they do not perform Abishekam here. Likewise Coconuts too are not broken. Around Him are the 8 other Bhairavars with their Consorts and they are as follows: 1) Asithanga Bhairavar and Brahmmi, 2) Guru Bhairavar and Maheswari, 3) Chanda Bhairavar and Goumari, 4) Krothana Bhairavar and Vaishnavi, 5) Unmatha Bhairavar and Varahi, 6) Kabala Bhairavar and Indrani, 7) Beeshna Bhairavar and Chamundi & 8) Samhaara Bhairvar and Chandiga. There is a small Sub Shrine for Kalahastheeswarar who is in the form a Shiva Lingam and next to Him is His Consort Gnana Prasunambigai. Similarly there are Sub Shrines for Ganapathy, Murugan, Iyyappan and Durgai Amman. The Temple has a Yaaga Saalai where Yaagams and Homams could be performed. The Temple does not have a Madapalli or a Temple Kitchen but they procure the food from outside and distribute it among the Devotees. It has a Ghoshaala and has an exclusive enclosure for piling up the Haystack.Theipirai Ashtami and Valarpirai Ashtami whih are actually the Waxing and Waning days of the Moon is very famous here and during such days special Yaagams are performed for the benefit of the Devotees. Black Pepper, Cashew, Cow Ghee and Palm Sugar are offered in the Yaagam. This Temple is getting an overwhelming number of Devotees these days. Since the Temple's proximity is much closer to the Temple Town of Kumbakonam Devotees and Tourists from far flung areas too throng this Temple.
