This Temple is one of the oldest Temples in Andhra Pradesh and is located on the banks of River Pennar. The Temple construction was done by the Pallava Rulers between the 7th and 8th Centuries. Later King Rajendra Varma developed it further during the 12th Century. The Main Rajagopuram consists of 7 Tiers. Just before the Main Entrance a Gaaligopuram or Wind Tower of 70 feet high is erected. Thalpagiri refers to the Serpant Aadhisesha on which Lord Vishnu rests and reclines. Sri Ranganathar, the Presiding Deity is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Sri Ranganathar who is found in a reclined posture measures 10 feet long with Lord Brahmma seated on His chest. His Consorts are Sri Devi and Bhu Devi. One could find Sri Vishnu Sahasranamavali verses scripted on the walls of the Sanctum Sanctorum. Sage Kashyap is believed to have perfomed Poundarika Yagna here. There are Shrines for Goddess Ranganayaki, Narasimha, Venkateswara, Andal and Alwars. A Santhaana Viruksha Tree is found within the premises and this Tree is believed to Bless all childless couple coming here with new born kids.
