Shri Vaidhyanatheswara Temple is located in Talakad in Mysore District. It is one among the five Pancha Linga Temples located in Thalakadu. This Temple is said to have been constructed in the 14th Century during the times of the Chola Kings. It is an East facing Temple with a massive structure though there is no Rajagopuram. Instead Sri Vaidyanatheshwara Temple has a Gopuram which is intricately carved with various Divine Images. There is a Dwajasthambam or a flag Staff, two Bali Peedams and a Nandhi Vaahanam facing the Sanctum Sanctorum. There are two huge Dwara Baalakas located on either side of the Moolasthanam. In the Sanctum Sanctorum Sree Vaidyanadeeswara is seen as a Shiva Lingam and He is construed as an incarnation of Lord Shiva. Manonmani Ambal who is the Consort of Sri Vaidhyanatheswarar is East facing in Her Shrine. The Divine feet of Ambal is placed just before the Shrine of Manonmani Ambal. The Moolasthanam has a lovely gold plated threshold and close to it is a Ganapathy Idol. Just outside the Sanctum Sanctorum are the Idols of Somaskandar, Venkat Narayana Swamy, Natarajar, Sharadha Devi, Naaga Devathas, Surya Bhagwan, Bhadrakali, Kaalika Devi, Shivan and Ganapathy. The entire Temple has been built on a multi pillared Mandapam and each of these pillars have intricately designed and Divine Idols on them. There is a four pillared Mandapam in the outer peipheral and on top of it they have mounted a huge Idol of a Nandhi Vaahanam. There are several other Shiva Lingams too in the outer peripheral. There are Sub Shrines for Ganapathy, Kala Bhairavar, Pancha Lingam, Durgai and Murugan. To the rear of the Moolasthanam is a well designed Silver Chariot which looks eye appealing. The Temple has Thulabaaram facilities and Devotees could weigh their offerings according to their weight. The Temple has wheel chair facilities for the old and disabled. The Sthala Viruksham of the Temple is a Parijatha Tree or Pavazhamalli Tree and the Temple has a Pushkarani too. Vinayagar Chathurthi, Aippasi Annabishegam, Arudhra Dharisanam, Masi Magam, Pradhosham, Navarathri, Maha Shivarathiri are some of the festivals are celebrated in a grand manner. The Temple has a Pooja stall near its main entrance and another Pooja stall near the Shrine of Vaidyanatheeswarar and Manonmani Ambal respectively. This Temple is believed to offer miracle curing for those Devotees who come to Him with any serious Health issues and hence the name Vaidyanatheeswarar. The Temple is now under the care and control of the Archaeological Survey of India.
