This Temple is considered as a Maada Kovil and it has been built by the Chola King Ko Chengen Cholan. Thiruveezhimizhalai is an age old village located in Kudavaasal Taluk of Tiruvarur District. This Temple is known as Veezhinathar Temple or Sri Veezhinathar or Mapillaiswamy Thirukovil and is considered as the 61st Paadal Petra Sthalam. The actual name of the Temple in full is Sri Sundaragujambigai Samedha Sri Veezhinatha Swamy Temple. This place derives its name for two reasons. 1) The place was infested with Sandalwood and Jackfruit. Pala is the Tamil equivalent for Jackfruit and hence it was called as Veezhi. 2) A hunter named Mizhalai who was a staunch Shiva follower lived in this forest and hence the Veezhimizhalai. This is an East facing Temple with a Mandapam and a Sacred Tank located opposite to its entrance. There is a five tiered East facing Rajagopuram and before this they have erected tinned roofing to protect the Devotees from the vageries of Nature. There is a Dwajasthambam and a Bali Peedam facing the Moolasthanam. To begin with the Temple has a 100 pillared Mandabam known in Tamil as Nooru Kaal Mandapam. There is a Ghoshala close to this Mandapam. The Temple authorities have erected tinned roofing for their Annadhana Koodam for which cooked meals and Prasadams come from its Temple Kitchen. Beneath the Rajagopuram a small Idol of Ganapathy and Murugan have been embossed. There is a Podium to mark the place where Thirugnana Sammandhar received the Padi Kaasu. The Idols of Padhuma Nidhi and Sanga Nidhi are placed on the Rajagopuram in such a way that they face the Dwajasthambam. There is a Sub Shrine for Thirumoolanathar who is in the form of a Shiva Lingam. The Moolasthanam is at an elevated placed and Devotees may have to climb a few steps. There are 2 ways of reaching the Moolasthana Mandapam. It could be done by climbing 12 Tamil Maasa Padi (from Chitthrai to Panguni) or by climbing 7 Tamil Naal Padigal (Sunday to Saturday). At the threshold of the Moolasthanam are the Idols of Vinayagar and Murugan. Apart from them Dwara Ganapathi and Kasi Viswanathar's Idol are seen. Sri Thiruveezhinathar is seen as a East facing Shiva Lingam and behind the Shiva Lingam Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathy are seen together in the Kalyana Kolam. There is a general belief that those who come here and Pray or soon Blessed with a happy married life and their wishes to get a kid too is taken care off by this God. A Pandhakaal and a Arasaanikaal pillar is found close to the Moolasthanam. Arulmigu Karthayini Udanurai Kalyana Sundareshwarar is seen South facing in their Kalyana Kolam and Nandhi Bhagawan is seen along with them as a Witness. Outside the Moolasthanam Pitchandavar, Kaala Samhaaramurthy, Baalambal, Ayyanaar etc are seen as Urchavamoorthies. Close to the Moolasthanam is an Idol depicting Shivan offering Chakaram to the Maha Vishnu. The Gopuram of the Moolasthanam is different from those of other Temples and it has been painted in a golden colour. Behind the Moolasthanam they have designed a gaping hole and it is said that a particular Parrot visits this Moolasthanam on a daily basis. In the outer peripheral there are numberous Shiva Lingams like Ekambareshwarar, Selva Thiagarajar, Annamalaiyar, Vaidhyanathar, Kaalhathieswarar etc which are neatly arranged. The Temple has a Paadala Nandhi located much below the ground level which attracts countless Devotees. The Graha Padi which is also called as Navagraha Padi is located here and they are 9 in numbers. The Natarajar of this Temple is known as Sri Aadal Vallan. There are Sub Shrines for Irattai Pillayar, Bala Subramaniyar, Naalvar, (Thirugnana Sammandhar, Appar, Sundarar and Manickavasagar), Saneeswarar, Suryan and Meikandadeva Nayanar. At the threshold of the Ambal Sannadhi are two Dwara Baalaki Idols. The Ambal Shrine has a three tiered East facing Rajagopuram and She is known here as Sundaragujambikai. Close to the Ambal Shrine are two Sub Shrine for Ganapathy, Murugan and Chandikeshwari. There is an exclusive Sub Shrine for Padi Kaasu Vinayagar and Devotees never miss to come here. The Sthala Viruksham is a Jackfruit Tree or a Palaa Maram and the Theertham is Vishnu Theertham and Damodhara Theertham. Vinayagar Chathurthi, Aippasi Annabishegam, Arudhra Dharisanam, Masi Magam, Pradhosham, Navarathri, Maha Shivarathiri are some of the festivals are celebrated in a grand manner. There is a Yaaga Salai in this Temple and Homams and Yaagam could be conducted here. Notable among the Homam is the one done in the name of Swayamvara Kala Parvathi Homam and this when done is said to have amazing effects in one's marriage.
