Temple is located in Srivilliputhur and dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The Temple is of Dravidian Architecture. It is one of the 108 Divyadesam of Lord Vishnu who is known here as Vadapatrasai and His Consort Lakshmi as Andal. The Temple has been glorified in Divya Prabandham too. Srivilliputhur is supposed to be the birth place of Periyalwar and his foster daughter Andal. Its firmly believed that Andal as a kid was found under a Thulsi plant in the Temple Garden. This Temple is basically of two divisions viz. 1) Andal located on the South West and 2) Vadapatrasai on the North East direction. The Temple underwent a Samprokshanam on 20th January - 2016. The Temple has inscriptions of Chola, Pandiya and Nayak Rulers. The Temple underwent constructive changes during the reign of Thirumalai Nayak and Rani Mangammal. The Rajagopuram is the tallest amongst the Temples of Tamil Nadu. The Sanctum has 3 doorways and daily Thirumanjanam to the Deity is not performed. The origin of the Temple is still under debate with several versions doing the rounds. It is the only Temple where Lord Garuda is found alongside the Main Deity. The Temple's Gateway Tower is the Official Symbol of the Government of Tamil Nadu. This Temple follows the Thenkalai Sampradayam.
