Ucchi Pillayar Temple is also known as the Arulmigu Thayumanaswany Temple or Rockfort. This Temple is a famous Temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha in Tiruchirappalli,The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Lord Vinayaka. This Temple is also known as Malaikottai in Tamil. This Rock Fort Temple is made of 3 different Temple. Manikka Vinayagar Kovil at the foothill, Thayumanaswamy Kovil at Middle and Uchi Pilliyar Kovil on the hill top. The Temple on top of the Hill is situated around 273 feet high and Devotees have to climb nearly 400 steps to seek the Blessings of Lord Vinayaka. Though the Pallava Kings laid the Foundation for this Temple Complex it was the Madhurai Nayakas who developed and completed the construction. The Temple has its own Temple elephant which Blesses all Devotees & tourists visiting here. This Temple Complex dates back to the Seventh Century. This Rockfort Temple gives an aerial view of the entire Trichy City along with Srirangam Temple, River Kaveri & River Kollidam. This place was called Tirushiramalai and is now known as Tiruchirapalli. Apart from the normal Vinayaga Devotees this Temple attracts a lot of Tourists from other Indian States and Abroad too.
