The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Lord Varadharaja Perumal and He is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.  Lord Varadaraja Perumal Blesses His Devotees along with His Consort Perundevi Thaayar.  This Temple is one of the 108 Divya Desam that is dedicated to Lord Vishnu.  This place is also called as Vishnu Kanchi because of the existence of this Temple. There is a Golden and Silver Lizard in this Temple Devotees worship this Lizard to get relieved from Gowli Dhosham. Another important fact of this Temple is that there is a 40 feet long Deity of Lord Athi Varadhar in Pallikonda posture which is submerged inside this Anandha Theertham and He comes out of it and Blesses His Devotees only once in 40 years.  This Temple was built by the Cholas and developed by the Rulers of the Pandiya, Pallava and Vijayanagara Empires. This Temple is built on a whopping 23 acres of land and has a seven tiered Rajagopuram.  There is a separate Shrine from Lord Chakrathalwar near the Anandha Theertham of this Temple.  This Temple offer its famous Kancheepuram Idly as Prasadam to its Devotees visiting this Temple.
